Discover Curry Lounge

If you’re wandering along Princes Street in Port Glasgow and craving bold spices and proper comfort food, Curry Lounge at 46 Princes St, Port Glasgow PA14 5JQ, United Kingdom, is the kind of place that pulls you in with the scent of toasted cumin and slow-simmered sauces before you’ve even checked the menu. I stopped by on a chilly Friday evening after hearing several locals rave about their South Asian dishes, and within minutes of sitting down, it was clear why the reviews are consistently strong.

The dining room feels relaxed and welcoming, more neighbourhood favourite than flashy chain restaurant. Families chat over plates of tikka masala, couples share naan straight from the oven, and regulars greet the staff by name. That familiarity says a lot. According to research from UKHospitality, repeat local customers are one of the strongest indicators of restaurant satisfaction and long-term quality. You can sense that loyalty here.

The menu is extensive without being overwhelming. It covers the classics-chicken korma, lamb bhuna, vegetable biryani-alongside chef’s specials that lean into deeper, richer flavour profiles. I opted for a garlic chilli chicken and a side of saag paneer. The chicken arrived tender, coated in a glossy sauce that balanced heat and sweetness rather than just blasting spice. The spinach in the paneer dish tasted freshly sautéed, not overcooked, and the cheese held its shape beautifully. It’s the kind of attention to detail that separates an average curry house from a truly good one.

Food safety and hygiene matter to me, especially when reviewing local diners. The UK Food Standards Agency consistently highlights temperature control and cross-contamination prevention as key to safe food service, and from what I observed-clean tables, organized kitchen flow, attentive staff-Curry Lounge takes these standards seriously. While I don’t have access to internal kitchen audits, everything visible from a customer’s perspective reflected care and professionalism.

One thing that stood out was how clearly the staff explained spice levels. Capsaicin, the compound responsible for the heat in chilli peppers, can vary widely in intensity. Instead of assuming everyone can handle a vindaloo, they asked about preferences and adjusted accordingly. That kind of personalized approach improves the overall dining experience and aligns with what hospitality experts often call customer-centered service. It’s simple, but it works.

The takeaway service is equally efficient. I spoke with a couple who regularly order for collection, and they mentioned that dishes are packaged carefully to retain heat and texture. With food delivery growing rapidly across the UK-Statista reports steady year-on-year increases in takeaway demand-having a reliable system in place makes a real difference for local restaurants. Curry Lounge appears to have adapted well, offering convenience without sacrificing quality.

From a pricing standpoint, the portions are generous and fairly set for the area. You’re not paying city-centre Glasgow prices, yet the flavours easily compete with more urban Indian restaurants I’ve tried. The naan breads are soft with just the right char, and the rice is fluffy rather than clumped-a small detail, but one that shows consistency in kitchen process. Good rice requires correct water ratios and proper resting time; it’s basic culinary science, yet many places rush it.

Online reviews frequently mention friendly staff and dependable service, and that matches my experience. Orders arrived promptly, and the team checked in without hovering. In hospitality, timing is everything-serve too quickly and it feels rushed; too slowly and it feels neglected. Here, the pacing felt natural.

There’s also a sense of community connection. Port Glasgow isn’t short on takeaway spots, but not every location builds a reputation strong enough to become a go-to for birthdays, casual dinners, and midweek cravings alike. Curry Lounge manages that balance of flavour, familiarity, and fair value. While menus and opening hours can occasionally change, the core experience-fresh ingredients, layered spices, and attentive service-remains steady.

For anyone exploring dining options in Port Glasgow, whether you’re a local resident or just passing through Princes Street, this spot delivers exactly what you hope for from a quality curry house: bold aroma, comforting dishes, and a team that genuinely seems to care about what lands on your plate.

  • Everytime I come in everyone is always so warm and welcoming. Never had a bad experience. The food is amazing and just as good the next day if you have leftovers. Such a lovely bunch of people all of them.

  • Great curry restaurant and Port Glasgow is lucky to have this on its doorstep. My personal favourite dish has been the tandoori mix grill and it comes with Nan bread, pilau rice and a great sauce. Service can be slow due to the constant incoming orders so best to place your order for collection in advance. Sometimes we can be a victim of our own success, and this my only caveat. The food speaks for itself and is great value and highly recommended.

  • Location is ideal for all modes of transport with bus and train stations nearby, unfortunately there is no private parking. The food was well presented, and chicken tikka tandoori is well worth a try. Hot buffet and table menus are available. The buffet was plentiful and topped up regularly. Staff could not do enough for you (well done). The restaurant doesn't have an alchol licence, but you can bring your own. They serve cold beverages by can or draught

  • The two waitresses were really lovely and very nice to get to know their culture from India and one of them even offered us a lift if we had missed our bus back to our camper van. And the buffet deal was amazing three course for only £19

  • We always order from the menue. Spiced onions are the best here. They have proper nans which are large, thin and fluffy. The curries are delicious and freshky made. Parking is left behind a Chinese takeaway. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. We love that place.
